  1. How interesting that you got to live in the U.S. for so long and also retain your British Citizenship. Our daughter would give her eye teeth to be able to live in Scotland permanently. She has fallen hard for a Scottish lad. She’ll be home next week from an 8 month sojourne including 6 months in Scotland (or whatever the current allowance is). She already has purchased her return ticket. It will be an uphill battle I fear. Maybe I just won’t show her the photo of your U.K. passport!

I love Scotland. It is beautiful. I lived there for a short time. But, I can’t understand a single word they say!

  2. Good to hear from you and enjoyed getting caught up with your adventures on your blog.

I am brand new to the blog world and have so enjoyed the community out there. Our short term plans are cruising in Puget Sound and figuring out what the big trips might look like.

Looking forward to hearing how it all goes for you!

      Kristen,

Puget Sound it not a bad place to start. We seriously considered buying a boat on the west coast so we could spend the first couple of years in Puget Sound. If this sailing thing works out for us, we will transit the Panama Canal and will most definitely not head west to the South Pacific as other cruisers do. We will head North and enjoy the beauty of the NW. Then, off the the South Pacific.

There is one great flipflop out there, Scotts, they have a bit of arch support, will easily last 1year of continious wear, but most importantly, they have a GRtEAT NON SKID bottom, especially good for wet fiberglass. They are strong, have never had the nylon pull out or delaminate…. and best of all, the wallmart here sells em….buy a little big and you wont stub your toes so much……nice boat, good choice…..aloha Ron

Ron, Thanks for the tip. You hit all of my hot buttons: cheap, comfortable, long lasting, and the fact I can get more than one pair if I like them.

  4. I feel your pain on the slippers front. I have an alarm clock from 1989. My husband bought it for me when I graduated with my master’s degree because he knew I wanted a clock and also wanted something to record conversations in sessions. So it has a tape player built in. I still use it. He has ‘suggested’ I upgrade to an atomic clock that will not have to be reset each time the power goes out but I resist. It is now a talisman of epic proportions. If I have to wake up at a certain time, my ears are finely attuned to it’s piercing wail. My belief is that when this clock dies, I will retire. As long as it continues working, I continue working. It is on its last legs. So am I. 🙂 Change is hard in the trsnsition phase. Here’s to a comfy pair of flip flops you can wear all day.

  5. Hey guys, thanks for sending a little love our way…its well received. I have not had a chance to go through your blog thoroughly (geez, there is a lot to read!) and I’ve just started to skim the surface but thought I’d email you guys to thank you for stopping by and to alert me to another great sailing blog. I only a small list on my blog that I follow and will add yours soon. We also trying to start the adventure in November and are trying to get it ready to splash in the first 2 weeks of that month. Forgive me, but since I haven’t read enough on your blog yet, where in Florida are you guys? Do you have a YouTube channel I can check out? Good luck on the adventure, and I hope we can meet up sometime (we hope to be real Floridians soon ourselves – if not for a few months anyway.)

      Hi Kevin,

We are in St Pete until the end of hurricane season. We will push off in Nov/Dec and no doubt pass through Key West. As to the You Tube channel – LOL – we struggle to barely do the blog. We are technically challenged 🙂

Keep a beer cold for us,

      Mark

      • I can tell by the look of your blog that you guys are a little more technically gifted than you give yourself credit for 🙂 Yeah, our plan is to splash sometime in November and hang around Key West for about 2 months while we figure out how to sail a boat (sorry, we’re newbies to the lifestyle) then head up to Miami before we get the courage to jump over to the Bahamas for a bit (that’s the plan anyway….always subject to change) So maybe we will be able to keep a beer cold for you before we head out ourselves. Btw, you guys have a great and capable boat – I see a lot of it’s awesomeness through s/v Delos (if you haven’t checked them out, you need to!) Happy sailing and I’ll start trying to get caught up with your story.

Sailing is the easy part! It’s getting the darn thing in and out of the marina that’s hard

  9. Great post on cancelling the mail. I loathe having a mailbox because there is never any good news in it. I’m with Kramer that it should be cancelled. Can’t wait to be a St. Brenden’s Isle customer.
