  1. I’m struck most by my desire to see an iguana that big and the fact that Aruba has no graffiti! Wow, imagine no graffiti. When we visited Ecuador last year the amount of graffiti everywhere was astounding and really colored our view of the place. Even the beautiful works of public art were covered with it. I noticed it in Guaymas this week as well, but honestly Guaymas has so little else to recommend it that I hardly cared. Beautiful photos as always.

      Hi Melissa,

Thanks for the note and kind words. Aruba has joined the ranks as one of our favorite places. It’s going to be hard to top this beautiful little island.

Still loving the posts! Wishing I was in Aruba! Think I am having withdrawals from it! 🙂
As for the watch thing… My thoughts are….. there are just some people that have a thing for watches, much like women having a thing for a zillion purses, and shoes! I do not understand this at all, having a zillion shoes/pocketbooks!! (which I have neither, rather be in my flip flops! or no shoes at all!) Are you planning on staying in Aruba for an extended amount of time?

      Hi Ellen,

I guess we were busy saving money rather than buying shoes and watches 🙂 Amen on the flip flops. I splurged and have two pairs – ha ha!

We will start looking for a weather window to move to Colombia in late November. The area through which we have to sail can be a little tricky so we will be watching closely. This is about the only time of year this passage calms enough to have smooth ride and we like smooth rides.

As always great writing, but awesome photos – the murals of San Nicolas are incredible. Keep writing and posting and enjoying!

You are in my Favorite Island! ARUBA!!!! Feels like my second home! Haven’t been able to go home for a while so Post lots, so I can live threw your stay!

If you are looking for some good places to eat, Passions on the beach (great at sunset) Flying fishbone (tables in the water/at sunset), Pizza-Amore Mio Pizzeria, and right next door is a Gelato-gelatissimo. So so many good restaurants in Aruba!

So many beautiful things to see!

I am so jealous right now!

Can’t wait to see your posts!!!!

Ellen, Thanks so much for the recommendations! We can already see why Aruba would be a favorite island. We promise to keep the post flowing while here.

    Hey Mark and Cindy!

I just finished reading “Hacked!” and it brought to mind an essay I wrote back in the late 90’s. I’ve often thought of sending it out to business journals and see if I could get it published. Or using it whenever I get bad service as a warning of what they were becoming. Of course now, 20 years later…OH HEAVENS! THAT LONG!!…it is even worse. It was entitled Customer Service: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. Would be happy to send it on if you are interested. I got an A on it and the teacher was pleased with it. She always wanted me to leave ECPI and become an English teacher. Anyway, let me know if you would like to see it!

This morning as I headed out for work it was 49 degrees and raining heavily. Today we pull our boat for the winter. We spent the weekend winterizing water systems and air conditioning. We packed up anything that would freeze and brought it all home.

Winter gets longer after every birthday. I love your pictures and descriptions of warm climate.

      Hi Marie,

Thank you so much for the kind words. We just moved from Bonaire to Aruba. Last night as we sailed I slept in the cockpit because the weather was so warm. It’s hard for me to think of people winterizing their boats already. Wow! We think you need to move to a warmer climate 🙂

Hahaha, I would like to visit a warmer climate; for a few months a year. I actually LOVE living in Michigan. I don’t really mind the snow, or the cold weather. Ice, I do mind and I really wish Michigan winters were just a BIT shorter. Our upper peninsula had snow on Friday. That’s actually a little earlier than normal. I feel for my relatives that live in that area. We generally get our first snowfall mid November.

I just read your post about getting mail. If you EVER need somebody to forward stuff to you via the correct carrier; I would be more than happy to be your go between. We have ALL the major carriers in metro Detroit. I know you don’t know me personally and it would be weird to trust me as a credit card go between; but I would be happy to help if I could. Call it paybacks for your wonderful blog content.

Enjoy your October in the sun. We are looking forward to fall color and Halloween!

Hey! I’m Ed Stewart’s daughter. Mom has been forwarding emails to me for some time and I really enjoy them. Your pictures are spectacular, no matter what you might say, and I LOVE your writing style. Look forward to hearing more adventures 🙂

Hi Kendall, Thanks for reaching out to us. And also, thank you so much for the kind words. Ed is a really neat guy, he helped me a lot with our SSB radio and joined me on a sail from Ft. Lauderdale to St Petersburg Fl.
      All the best,

Watching all the storm tracks this morning. Are you going to get some wind and rain from Isaac? Hope all is well in your floating home…..

    • Mark

      Hi Marie,
We are expecting the opposite, thankfully. We are far enough south to be unaffected by hurricanes. Bonaire, although not totally free of hurricanes lays outside of the normal zone. As Issac passes north of us, it will suck the wind out of here and we will have a calm few days. This is unusual for Bonaire as it normally has trade winds year round blowing a constant 15-20 knots from the east.

  9. Thanks for the flamingo picture. They used to be my favorite birds when I was little. 🙂

Hi . I have been reading your blog from the beginning and am a big fan. Your recent post about government red tape reminded me of a question I have had about your lifestyle. Since you are required in the US to have a residential address and not just a P.O. box on your drivers license , what do you use for an address ? So curious about this as I am encountering problems with this that seem an obstacle to selling it all and traveling full time. Thanks!

    • Mark

      Hi Claudia,

Very good question. There is a company in Florida called St. Brendan’s Isle that provides an excellent service: https://www.sbimailservice.com/
Most people we know use this or a similar option. In addition, it is good to have a friend or relative who will let you use their address. Hope this helps.
