  2. OK you crazy kids! Here’s my post for your nomination…

  3. Thanks for the nomination for the Liebster Award! I am blushing. Really. It will be a fun blog post to do and I will get on it mighty quick. BTW, I absolutely love the name Water Melon for a boat and wish I’d thought of it.

You are more than welcome. We really enjoy your blog and have enjoyed watching your boat come together.

Prior to Water-Melon we had a Yellow Hoby Cat catamaran. We called that one Banana Split.

Cream Puff was the most nautical we could come up with and keep the food theme going. Amels are off-white so it came very easily.

  4. Hi! Just found your blog from the Bumfuzzle blog. We are on the same trajectory very nearly as you are. We have just given/tossed all our possessions and reduced down to 14 plastic totes. I feel your pain. Kevin moaned a few times about the loss of his rice cooker! We have just recently purchased our boat and are planning to work winters and take off 5-6 months in the summer to sail the Puget Sound to start with then we’ll take off for points West. Maybe our paths will cross someday!

Good luck! I’m so happy to know there are a few people heading out to see the world unencumbered.

Wings of the Morning is a beautiful boat. I love the classic lines.

Thanks for saying hello. We love the plan to work and sail Puget Sound. It is a beautiful area. We too hope to get there, one day. With the Caribbean in our back yard, it makes sense to start there first. We want to really take our time there for a couple of reasons. The sailing is pretty simplistic and doesn’t require a lot of overnight passages. And, it’s beautiful.

One day we will go west via Panama and our hope is to be a little different from other cruising sailors. Rather than head to the South Pacific, we will head North and take in the upper North American coast for a couple of years. We’ll probably winter in Mexico. After that, we’ll see what lies West.

We wish you well and the best of luck with your plan.

  5. Thank you for visiting our site and making your site available to us. Your comments about choosing a boat had my husband and I in stitches this morning. I’d love to share some thoughts with you about our cruising life (not full time right now nor may it ever be….) so please write back to me at my email. I do love to cook on board so will share some recipes with you.

  6. Oy! Yes it’s so true. When I get into the spirit of tossing things, I inevitably end up tossing something I will need later. I guess it’s just part of the process. I usually can’t find ‘that thing’ when I need it anyhow.

  7. Just read your article on to toss or not to toss. I can relate. I have yet to really start weeding through my things in earnest except for certain things that I know I won’t need, like my high heels.

Now I don’t know about Cindy, but I love my shoes. So departing with them was emotional for me. So to get over it and move on, I started naming each pair after a port somewhere in the world. Now when I get rid of a pair I know they are contributing to my adventure.

    • Hi Elizabeth,
Thank you for your comment. I can relate to your dilemma except mine is purses and socks. I have been donating purses to charity slowly. I always joke that no matter what my dress size becomes, my purses and socks always fit. LOL!

I love your idea of naming the shoes after future ports you will visit. I think I might steal that idea for my socks. I have a lot of colors and patterns. Naming them can be fun and it will be easier to part with them.

Thank you again for the comment. It helps to have others empathize as we downsize to move onto the boat. If it helps, I have found that it is easier doing things in stages. I start out one room at a time and then later go back to each room and decided on more items. For whatever reason, it helps me to do small doses of getting rid of things rather than the “all at one time” approach.

With downsizing there is so much to do and so many decisions to make along the way. I am sure it will be all worth it soon.

      Best wishes and happy sailing.
Hope to see you out there too.
      Cindy

      • Hi Cindy,

I love that you are attached to your socks!!!! I never wear socks so that is completely foreign to me. Now purses, I can relate. I can also relate to the size thing too! Can’t outgrow the shoes and purses.

Thank you for the tip about doing one room at a time and then going back and subtracting some more. I’ll have to do the same.

I will definitely be storing some things, mainly furniture that has been in the family and my pots and pans. The pots and pans are too big and heavy for sailing but I know I’ll be glad when and if I return to a land based home in the far far future. Otherwise, my sister-in-law has already placed dibs on my kitchenware. 🙂

I do hope we run into each other on the water someday. It will be fun to meet my blogging pen pals.

        See you on the water,

  8. Wow! very cool blog site. Thanks to Elizabeth for the referral. My little blog may not appeal to a large audience but I try to be authentic as far as teeny tiny galley fixings…and believe me, we (me and my French Captain) do love to dine.

    • Mark

We have already learned we do not need a fancy kitchen to eat well, just some imagination. And, your blog certainly will help.

  9. Man I hate stupid typos, they’re not their. My grandmother was an English teacher and would have my head!
